I hate to say it, but it's my generation that raised these infantile youngsters who can't take responsibility for their poor decisions. I know many young men, and none of them is sexually active as a result of this nonsense. And I don't blame them. So then I read articles which shame young men for having less sex than previous generations. They're being called "losers" for simply not knowing how to navigate this insane culture. They can't win. @Floandrews3 years agoNot only do situations like this take away all chemistry between men and women. I cannot think of a bigger turn off as a woman than a man asking for consent before everything he does and then checking in mid sex to check in still consenting... surely men KNOW when they’re doing something wrong. Read the vibe, read the body language... if you both wanna get it on then get it on. But also, as both a rape victim and sexual assault victim , these stories diminish sexual assault so much that rape and assault victims are no longer taken seriously. Regretting what was at the time consensual sex the next day, is not assault. Having said that... I do believe it’s rape if a woman or man is drunk to the point of clearly not being able to consent and the assaulted is clear headed enough to know what they’re doing. ...2
@
@QueenSoap5 years agoI agree with parts of what Joe is saying, but there are different levels of being drunk which complicates this topic. Unfortunately young people in college may not yet know their limits. Most adults who've been drinking for a long time know what they can handle. There's a difference between being tipsy and being blackout drunk. If a woman can barely move or hold herself up and you can still walk...you should not be trying to have sex with that girl. If you're the same level as drunk as the person...that brings in other complications. Also...sometimes it's not so obvious that a person is blackout drunk because they're functioning pretty well. The reality is drinking (when you're young) complicates things for everyone involved. Part of the solution is perhaps teaching young people how to drink responsibly. We're so caught up on telling people not to drink until they're 21, but the reality is people are going to do it and the same way we've pushed people to have safe sex if they're going to do it...we need to do the same with drinking. When I was in college, I met these girls who told me that when they go out that they plan on getting "black-out" drunk which sounded insane to me. Both young men and young women need to understand that if they choose to drink to a point of being completely out of control then the night might end really badly for both people involved...this is not victim blaming, but we need to encourage people to make better decisions. ...5

@Kira1Lawliet5 years agoOne of things that piss me off most is that good, sensible advice has now been relegated to "victim blaming". "Don't get blackout drunk at a party", "Don't wear overly revealing clothes", "Don't act overly flirty if you have no intention of sexually engaging anyone" are all considered victim blaming, even though each of these examples is simply good advice to avoid getting yourself into these situations where you make yourself vulnerable to rape. Nobody gets offended when people suggest you carry a weapon with you when you walk through a dark, abandoned alley at night—nobody says that's blaming people who get robbed. It's just common sense. Feminists and other people need to stop calling sexism or victim blaming on these kinds of comments. There ARE things you can and should do to prevent yourself from getting harrassed, even if what might happen isn't necessarily your fault. ...1

@aikaterineillt98767 years agoMen should be expected to set boundaries and respect anyone they want to get involved with on any level just as much as women should be expected to keep themselves safe and in a state of mind that increases that safety net of rationale. And men should not be succumbing to alcohol to alter their decision making just as much as women should. It's a two way street when it comes to two relatively ethical human beings. But when you throw in a predator into the mix, the fault shifts onto that predatory monster who knows exactly what they are doing. And even if the woman (or man) put themselves into a position of frailty, no blame should be set upon them. A person should be able to get drunk wherever, whenever, (as long as they aren't driving or in a position to harm anyone else) without worrying about getting raped or taken advantage of. Also last time I checked, men weren't bears. Poor analogy. Literally sounds like you are promoting the more severe feminist agenda with that one.
